We chose Kolomoki Mounds State Park for a quiet weekend getaway and were very disappointed. The park itself is wonderful, but a work crew from Texas has apparently taken over the campground as an inexpensive place to stay while working on a job nearby. The first night we were startled by chainsaws, evidently they were cutting up firewood to use. The next morning at dawn we were awakened by their diesel trucks, as they were left unattended while they apparently were letting the trucks 'warm' up. The drone of their diesel trucks lasted about 45 minutes before they left for their work. Our first day ended with the noise from one of the workers' truck radios that he had left on loud enough so he could hear it while he showered in the restroom. We mentioned the noise to the employees at the park office and were told other campers had complained. They stated the workers were asked to keep the noise down, but, other than that, there was nothing they (the park employees) could do. I was very disappointed with my stay and definitely won't return, at least without checking first to see if the crew from Texas is still there or not.

Very nice, well maintained park. Fishing is good, motors over 10HP now allowed (although you can use your trowling motor). Canoes, paddleboats are for rent. Pool is now apparently closed, and it looks like the miniture golf could possibly be too. Indian Mounds are interesting to visit and are well kept. Other than the Indian Mounds, there's not alot to do in the immediate area. Campground is very quiet, great for just a relaxing time.

This is a great state part! Very neat burial/temple mounds, wonderful lake, great bathhouse, and QUIET! They also have mini golf, canoes, and a pool. If you get into the south eastern part of Georgia, you may want to stop here for a rest!
