||This is our 5th time at Big Lagoon. Main reason: 20 hours from West Michigan, straight down US 31, Down I-65, cut off to US 29, work West toward Perdido Key. This IS the closest FLA beach in a relatively short drive.
Nice, clean State Park campground. Could use more sites, but then it might get crowded. Book well in advance, Spring Break? Book as soon as they will take it, Reserve America Website. Reasonable rates (Cheaper than Michigan State Parks). Amenities: Close to Pensecola, National Seashore (the Beach on the Gulf, just over a close by causeway, a Golden Age Pass helps here); Navel Air Station Museum, Gulf Shores, AL; Orange Beach, Al; Mobile,AL if you don't mind the extra drive (Bellengrath Gardens).
Park is on a lagoon of the Intercoastal, Nature Trails, critters, fishing. Closet town: Perdido Key, FLA, just over the Alabama line. We like Big Lagoon SP a lot. We just hope the weather is good. By the 1st week of April it usually is warm, can get some rain though. The Azalias around the area are spectacular! |
