Beautiful quiet campground

Beautiful campground in a pine forest. Lots of shade, river and hiking activities nearby. Friendly host. The mosquitoes were unbelievable, perhaps the worst I've ever seen, so if you have a screen house, bring it. There's a dump station and potable water.

Beautiful campground surrounded by large pines at the end of a dead end road in the middle of almost nowhere. Used to live near there as a kid and fish all the time. The hosts were quite friendly and we had a good time. Not much do if you need to be entertained....if you can entertain yourself, there's plenty of hiking trails, fishing in the Sugar River, and Colored Sands. Colored Sands has a bird banding station and lots of hiking trails...located 1 1/2 miles north of SRFP. If you love nature, this is the place to go...at night you can hear the coyotes barking and the owls hooting and all of Mother Nature's other sounds, and that's about it.

We were here right at the beginning of the season, during the week, and we had the place to ourselves. A really beautiful forest preserve with lots of trails. The main campground has electric hookups and is spread out through a lovely pine tree forest. You feel like you are in the Pacific Northwest! The sites are very spacious. There are also a few campsites located right on the Sugar River. No hookups and walk-in only here, but great sites. (see pics) A shower house is available.
