This is an older KOA and smaller than the newer ones. The sites may be a little closer together than at the newer parks. The pluses are that there are many shade trees for those wanting a shaded site as well as many sites with nearly full sun. The restrooms and showers are kept very clean. The owners Dave and Linda go out of their way to make guests stays pleasant. Dave, a former mechanic, will even help diagnose issues that guests have with their campers without expecting compensation. I have seen complaints about rodents here, but can not believe they exist. I think it was a guest that perhaps got yelled at or kicked out for violating campground rules. Another guest complained about not being able to bring his own wood, but due to tree diseases most campgrounds do not allow wood to be brought in. I am hoping to get back one more time before the end of the season. This was my first visit.

KOA was a nice place to go camping. The sites are pretty small. The bathroom and the campground are very clean. Close to Starved Rock.

If your destination is Starved Rock and the State park is full, this is a nice place to stay. Located off a country road, the only noise we heard was the mooing of the cows in the neighboring field - very nice country setting. Yes, the sites are very very very small (maybe I should add another very - just to be sure I made my point). But with Mathiessen right around the corner, who has time to hang out at the campground? All we hoped for was a clean, safe place to park our camper. The swimming pool (nice and clean), the playground, and some activities for the kids (candybar bingo, ice cream social, basketball hoop and a hay(less) ride, were nice perks. Bathrooms were clean. We enjoyed ourselves very much. And we recommend the campground along with the surrounding area for a fun weekend getaway.

Road noise and lots of loud partiers. The sites are small and crammed next to one another. We ended up next to people up drinking all night and making noise. No one at the office to complain to.

North of I-80 on a lightly traveled road - some road noise. 25 minutes north of Starved Rock SP. Primarily a overnight stop campground verses a destination (three neighbors in three nights). Very small sites - full hook-ups were back to back with a shared "yard", only two pull throughs that were long enough for a Class A & Toad - others had to unhook. Some trees at edges of campground, center sections unshaded. Clean & well well kept, but a little shop-worn. Pool, small store & laundry. The kids did enjoy the herds of cows in the pastures surrounding the campground, the Saturday night hay-ride and the $1.50 / 2 scoop ice cream social.

I agree that the main problem is how small the sites are. We camped in a back-in spot right along the road, which actually was a bit better than the pullthroughs, in my opinion. The road is a small, 2-lane country road, so the traffic isn't too bad, and we had a nice view of the farm across the way. Tenters get a better deal here, as some of the tent sites are nice & relatively secluded.

Pros: Far enough off the highway to be away from any noise, in a nice country surrounding. Nice pool. Cons: Really, really squished sites. Fine for a one-night stop, but barely. I think the pool made the difference.
