||South Higgins State Park is a 1,000-acre park split in half by County Road 100. To the north is Higgins Lake and to the south is Marl Lake. The campground is located along 1 mile of Higgins lake shoreline and is heavily wooded. There are 400 sites in the campground and all are fairly large and equiped with electric. The toilet/shower facilities are new and there are enough of them to handle the traffic. There are multiple playgrounds, a boat launch, and a beautiful beach.
We spent three days here and absolutely loved it. Each day we spent at the beach playing in the sand and water with the kids. The water is crystal clear with a sandy bottom and the lake is very shallow. Just perfect for the kids.
At night we would enjoy dinner and a campfire and were never interrupted by loud noises, music, or drunken laughter. The DNR patrolled pretty frequently. Some people may not like this, but I thought it was great. This campground is very family freindly and is now our favorite park in Michigan. I have been told it is popular and to book early. We will and we'll be back there soon.
