We (4 adult women) spent the weekend in the ELM cabin. We all loved the convenience of the cabin - nothing to set up. It was in close proximity to the restroom and showers which were always very clean. If you like to take long hikes or just like a leisurely shory walk there are plenty of trails to choose from. Also Heron Lake is gorgeous and has a park store, boat rentals, picnic tables and grills etc. Nice beach also! The only bad thing was the hard mattresses on the 2 bunk beds. But I guess that can be remedied with some egg-crate mattress pads.

This was a very nice park it was big the lake was big there is a lot of wild life they do not bother you nice sites in loop 3 and 4 they have nice secluded sites the only reason i wouldn't give this at 5 is the fire pits that they had they were raised about 3 feet off the ground and had no grill overall it was a great trip and a very nice park i would recommend this to everyone

We stayed in loop 3, had 4 sites for 20 people. The sites were grassy, and good-sized. Most were shady.A few sites had no shade at all. Visited Heron Lake-it was beautiful! Lots of shade, picnic tables and grills. The bathrooms were very clean and the camp grounds were also, grounds were kept up nice. Sites are spread out. It was pretty quiet and we had a lot of privacy. The roads are paved.I definitely want to come back! Had a very nice time.

For a State Park most sites are a nice size, with a variety to suit most tastes. Loop 4 has my vote as the nicest loop, with a nice selection of secluded sites. Followed by loop 3. Loops 1 & 2 did nothing for us. Have never used the facilities, so can't comment on the cleanliness. There was some scattered trash at the tree line of our site, we cleaned it up. Not much in touristy intrest in the area, Frankenmuth and Birch Run Shopping Outlets are an easy drive. Also never made it to the beach. It's a good place for a fast weekend close to the city when a 3 or 4 hr drive north isn't possible or wanted. We found it to be much quieter than expected. But then we went both before and after the main camping season.
