We camp almost exclusively at our state parks as well as other N.E. state parks and Shawme is hands down the cleanest best maintained campground we have stayed at. We voyage here several times a season w/ our family and also for our club outings. everyone that we've brought here agrees. as stated by other reviewers the sites are large, clean and fairly private. The staff is great and the facilities have always been meticulous. although like anyplace there is always a birdbrain or two who muck up the place (who are you and why? ) it is cleaned regularly, daily. Although I could rave about shawme I do have to pass on what we find to be the only downers. Traffic noise. some of the sites are backed up to route 6 and during the summer it generates alot of traffic and noise. If this is a concern there are sections that are away from the racket.so ask or pay attention to the map when booking. Another negative would be the trails. although they are nice, but not too plentiful, they too generally border the highway. so if you're looking for the peaceful quiet nature experience these are concerns however the pros far outway the cons and we highly recommened this campground!

We stayed at this campground in July '09 at site C22. We had the unfortunate experience of having our campsite robbed while staying here. It was extremely unnerving to return to our site to find our sleeping mats, pillows, towels, sleeping bags, flashlights, and even propane tanks stolen! After talking with some campers that had stayed at this campground longer, we found that a previous camper had been robbed at the same site the year before. Apparently, homeless people sometimes walk through the campground during the day stealing things, though we suspect we were robbed by the campers at the next site over. We do not recommend this campground on account of these safety issues. I have been camping my entire life and never had even one item stolen. This campground apparently needs to work on security.

I personally work for the Department of Conservation and Recreation (however not Shawme) and strongly believe that Shawme is one of the better Southcoast MA State campgrounds. Area 2 is way better and more updated. Very comfortable spacious sites with privacy that have a fire pit and picnic tables. Staff is absolutely amazing. Would recommend, if staying in the Cape, to pick Shawme over Scusset or Myle Standish.

Two weeks before our trip we book our site through Reservations America the only place that you can book your site for one of the Mass State Campgrounds. Crowell is located on Rt. 6A just over the Brourn Bridge in Sandwich, MA on Cape Cod. All the site were large wooded sites with fire pits. Most site were very private with lots of room between sites. We used Shawme Crowell as a base for our visit to Nautucket which was ideal for this, just 15 minutes to the ferry. We were not at the campground that much, however there was a camp store and clean restroom and the rangers were helpful. This campground was great for what we want this weekend and the price was great at $12.00 per nite.
