Stayed at Buffalo Point last summer. Real nice campground with electricity and water. Didn't do any canoeing, we were to late in the season, (low water) The skunks were frindly as long as you didn't mess with them and the raccoons visited every night for supper.

Stayed in Steel Creek campground. I have been to Steel Creek many times and have been with small groups and large groups! It is excellent for both as well as excellent for tent camping! The campsites are really nice and are literally just a few feet away from the river! Each campsite has a trail that leads directly to the river! As with any place along the Buffalo the bluffs are beautiful to look at! As someone who has camped numerous different places along the Buffalo River, Steel Creek has what I would consider definately the best swimming hole of any of the other places! It is on the Upper Buffalo and the water is usually flowing really good keeping it pretty clean! I just got back from Steel Creek today as a matter of fact and I had an incredible time! Being the time of year it is, the river is rather low so it wasn't suitable to canoe but there was other things to do. It is really close to Jasper, Ponca and Boxley Valley which is the most beautiful part of Arkansas in my opinion. I spend hours down in Boxley Valley as the sun goes down watching the deer and elk graze. It is definately as my mom calls it "God's Country." There are numerous hikes to go on too! My favorite is the Lost Valley hike! Steel Creek camping grounds offer a good deal of shade at most of the campsites. Steel Creek has bathroom facilities with running water and there is a shower house up the road a few miles in Ponca that is really nice! I would definately recommend Steel Creek to anyone who enjoys camping.
