After having my initial plans to stay in Lassen Volcanic National Park dashed by still waist-high snow, I decided to head back up I-5 and find a place to crash for the night. I did not have any guidebooks or information on Castle Crags, but I saw a state park relatively close to the highway, so I decided to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this place really was. While my site (can't remember the number) was on a bit on an incline, it still was in a shaded area. The noise from I-5 just a mile or two away can be heard, but this is a great place to stop for the night! The Pacific Crest Trail passes through here, too and it is near the Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area, as well as the Shasta-Trinity NF. If you get a chance, head over to Dunsmuir and visit the Hedges Creek Waterfall and Mossbrae Falls.

Received from Daniel D for visit in Jun 2003
