This is a very nice state park. I gave it a 3 because it is a typical state park. We prefer them to commercial campgrounds. The campground is on the lake but also in a housing area. The housing is separated by a 4' fence. This did not detract from the campgound and things were quiet. Typical state park hookups, 50A electric only. Water was available to fill ones tank. The showers and flush toilets were closed for the season. They do have a typical pit toilet and there is a dump station. Sites are back-in and pull-through. We had a nice paved, pull through site with tree, picnic table and fire ring. The campground road was not marked and we missed it first pass. It was a short 50 yard walk to the edge of the lake. One could watch the sunset on the city. Council Bluffs is a nice railroad town. No trains near the campgound. there is a Walmart and shopping center within 3-4 miles. It is a nice drive around the lake to get to the town. There are some train museums in town but they were closed when we were there. There is an interesting visitor's center in the area too. One could also easily go over to Omaha, NE from here. There is also a commercial campground on Rt. 275. It didn't look as nice as this park though.

When the showers are open the rangers do a good job of keeping them clean. As stated in the other review it is a quiet park. Council Bluffs has K-Mart and a shopping center with Sears, Penneys, Target and many small stores. We used to live in CB and may be a bit biased. Tomes Campground on 275 has full hook up. It is about 3 miles from the state park. There are 3 Casinos down by the Missouri River
