Made our reservation -with request for site that would accommodate a large tent - a month and a half in advance. Arrived at 7:45 pm and waited 1/2 hour to discover that they didnt have out name on "the list." As there was no "reservation specialist" at that location, they sent us 10 miles down the road to their other campground where we heard a similar story. The woman there found us a site...not at the livery location as we had planned, but "riverside". Out "riverside" site was nothing more than a freshly mown section of bank that didnt even have a river...seriously it couldnt have been more than a drainage ditch, and it was much too small to accommodate our tent. The path that led to it was like driving through a field. With daylight fading quickly we called the owner who directed us back to the first campground at the livery and found us a site. The road in is not for the faint of heart...muddy, pot holed, and generally unimproved. Our site was evidently not regularly used. Our tent barely fit, and there was no room for a fire. The roadside edge of the site was lined with logs, one side had another tent on it, one side backed up to thewoods, and the last side was where we were to park. It was lined with logs, tree stumps and a pile of rocks that might have been meant for a fire pit, but that hadnt seen action in a long time...it was over grown with plants. We were forced to unload and set up in the dark (it was 1 1/2 hrs after our arrival that they found us a spot) with rocks, logs, stumps, and very uneven ground to contend with. Daylight showed that we were on the smallest site. I might have been able to give a slightly better review had we gotten the site we should have. But none of thesites were improved in any way. All were uneven, all had the same rutted, muddy drive, and the river side sites were really ditch-side...no real water in the river. Four bathrooms (each with a sink, toilet and shower) were located a short walk from the campsites. I noticed that the sinks and toilet seats were cleaned each morning but the floors werent. The entire time we were there they were coated in sand and wet from the showers, which had no curtains. There was nothing to set clothes, towels and bathroom supplies on to keep them dry. I put my things in the sink while I showered and had to work hard to keep things dry. I double checked the website to see if I misunderstood the accommodations. They called it "pristine and natural" - natural it was...pristine it was not. The owner tried to compensate for the mix up on our arrival date by giving us two fire starters and telling us we could pick up some of the"pristine" firewood that littered the campground. Since we didnt have room for a fire, it was little help. We did use the canoe service which was fine. Aside from that, I would have to just say, compliments to their website designer and photographer. When I get home I will upload some of my own.
