Rock Island is an island off the very tip of the Door Peninsula in Door County, WI. It takes 2 ferries (Washington Island Ferry and the Rock Island ferry) to get there and is very primitive but worth all the work to get there. There are no showers or electric sites, only pit toilets and a fountain for drinking and potable water. There are 5 back pack sites (A & B-1.5 mile hike and C,D, and E-2.5 mile hike) and 30 others that are a few hundred yards from the ferry. Be careful with little kids, some of the sites on the water have steep drop-offs. The lake is very inviting for swimming and the hiking is fantastic! Everything is carry in/carry out and there are no facilites (ice, supplies, etc)on the island, although you can buy firewood. There is a restored lighthouse that is very popular and a must see. The night skies are beautiful and clear. A beautiful place and well worth the trip!!

Received from Paul G for visit in Aug 2008
