This is a large CG with sites well spaced, and loops separated from each other by many yards of woods. Most sites are shaded, except the 50-amp sites, which are in an asphalt parking lot. Multiple camphosts and frequent patrols, plus a no-alcohol policy in 1/3 of the CG and at the public beach, keep things orderly, and a lake breeze keeps you cool. Small concession stand by the beach; short drive to grocery, BigK and other stores in town. Very quiet in the 'teetotaler' section! The park is popular with local families, so there are lots of kids, bicycles, etc. out & about. Biggest drawback: many, many mosquitos!! We'd go here again, but in the off-season, when there are fewer bugs.

The campground was very clean and had nice wide sites. I loved the beach this made for a nice relaxing day. The park was patrolled by DNR and county so I felt safe. Close to Great America, outlit malls, and an hour to down town Chicago. Most state parks close the gates at 10 pm gates never close but there is an attendant 24/7.
