Excellent state park. It's one of our favorites. Not as well known, or as busy as the parks on the north shore. Most people drive past it heading to northern MN without knowing how nice of a park they are missing out on. The campground isn't very large (only 33 sites) but they are very nicely spaced and wooded. You have good privacy from your neighbors. The Kettle River is very scenic. There are nice hiking trails in the park. Great fall colors in Sept / Oct. We stayed on a weeknight in the fall and practically had the place to ourselves. We did get a visit shortly after dark from a more than friendly racoon who didn't want to leave our site, but did scamper up a tree for a few minutes when another critter was breaking branches and making noise in the trees near our site (we assumed it was a bear that spooked him). We briefly retreated to our camper while this was going on. My wife didn't enjoy that, but it certainly was an interesting experience. We've camped here several times in the past and will continue to return on an annual basis.

Received from Ross K for visit in Oct 2006
