For those seeking a very rustic, uncrowded setting in a picturesque, 1000-acre park, with an abundance of hiking trails, a lake, boat rentals, and equestrian facilities, this campground may be just what you're looking for. In addition to the main camping loop and cabin area, there are separate group and equestrian camping areas, the cabins are fully (and very well) equipped, and the rest rooms are clean and well maintained; electric and water hookups are available at the inexpensively-priced campground, which is accessible to both tents and RVs (up to 40 feet). There is no camp store, however (firewood is available at the office, and the town of Sumter -- 9 miles away -- has lots of stores, restaurants, and recreational offerings), and the park has few if any planned activities. For "getting away from it all," this park is an underutilized and largely undiscovered gem.
