This is one of the prettiest and cleanest campgrounds I've ever been to. The park was just reopened in the spring of 2003 after being completely refurbished and they have done a heck of a job! There are three camping loops. A loop is high on a hill, B is the most wooded, and C sites are on, or close to the lake (Philpott Lake). There is a swimming beach in the summer and fishing all year either from the shore or a couple of really nice docks. The bathrooms, complete with hot showers, are the cleanest I have ever seen! Shiny white tile walls, stainless steel sinks and doors, and beautiful wood beamed ceilings. There are water and electric hookups at most sites. Not sewer hook ups, but there is a dump station located in the center of the park. THere isn't a lot to do in the immediate area if you can make yourself even leave the park... but you're only about 15 minutes from Fairy Stone Park, and about an hour from the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are no large grocery stores close (closest is probably 40 minutes away) but there are several small country stores/gas stations that have the basics. It's a beautiful place to go!

This Corp of Eng. (COE) CG on Philpot Lake about 10 miles outside Bassett on Rte 57 and another 5 miles back on Goose Point Road. The last 5 miles are challenging.. many twists and blind curves - be very careful . Sites in Loop C are best for larger RVs. Loop B looks like tents only - very steep and tight turns - don't go up there in your RV without checking it first. Loop A is highest elevation in CG. Some 5th Wheels & Class A's were up in this loop - but we think it had to be tough getting into their spots. Though Loop C is best for larger RVs, it still has challenging areas - posts exist throughout the CG making it difficult to navigate. $21/night, water, 20/30/50 amp, dump station. Our satellite blocked by trees but we did get many local stations with our antenna booster. Even with a few driving challenges - this place is worth it. Just gorgeous -- clean, quiet, spacious. You can actually see the lake from every site in this section even ones on the inside of the loop. Bathhouses - immaculate. We love it here and have reservations for mid October - hope the fall colors wait for us. Make reservations through Reserve USA and early - this place is booked every weekend - I made reservations for our Oct trip in Jan. and this stay in May was mid-week. Pics (l-r) First 2 of our site (#18), 3rd the tight turn we had to make, last the view from our site.

As stated in the other review of this campground, Goose Point is a wonderful place to visit. Even before they refurbished it was one of my favorites. Since then it's been even better. Loop-A at the top of the hill has water & Electric, Loop-B in the middle of the hill is very woodsy and no hook-up;s. Loop-C at the bottom of the hill is the best, all but a few of the campsites are waterfront on Philpotts Reservior, they have water & electric, and a new bathhouse, waterfront ampitheater, and a fishing pier, beach, picnic pavilion, and boat launch. Their website has interactive map, click on the site and it\'ll show a picture of that site.
