Park had a great location. Only 20 miles west of Madison, located right on the Military Ridge State Trail which is wonderful for hiking and biking. Bathrooms/showers were clean and godd sized. Sites were OK, ours was a good size but it looked like some were small. Also, not all sites had tent pads, so make sure you have an air mattress in case your site doesn't, ground was VERY hard! Hiking was wonderful, with great views on top of the mound of southern Wisconsin. Lookout towers were fantastic as well. Park was beautiful all around. Also located within minutes were the attractions Little Norway and Cave of the Mounds, as well as Mt. Horeb and Barneveld, WI. Will go back!!

I have stayed at this camp ground many times over the past 30 years. It is the standard by which I measure all camp grounds. The sites are carved out of the woods and have about 50ft of separation from the next site. There's a nice flush bathroom with showers built within the past five years. At the top of the park is a large open area with lookout towers at both ends. There are many trails for biking and hiking. It also has a large pool and smaller kids pool.

A nice small state park in southern Wisconsin. The campground is heavily wooded and offers lots of privacy. There is also a nice and clean shower building. Some of the best reservable sites are: 37e, 35e, 33e, 17, 18, and 7. However, you really can't go wrong with most of the sites in the campground, with some of the best being nonreservable. This area of Wisconsin has lots of interesting things to do including: Cave of the Mounds and Little Norway. The nearby town of Mount Horeb is neat and is home to the Mustard Museum. For bikers, the Military Ridge State Trail runs thru the park. This really is a small jewel of a park. The larger Governor Dodge State Park is within driving distance for a day trip.

Although the campsites are lovely, heavily wooded with a lot of privacy, we would not stay at Blue Mound again because of the constant noise from a four-lane highway less than one mile away. The noise really spoiled the camping experience for us. Overall the facilities at Blue Mound are very nice, with a huge swimming pool (not heated) and very clean and modern shower/bathroom facilities. The view from the top of the park, the highest point in southern Wisconsin also is gorgeous.

I'm afraid to say anything good about Blue Mound State Park since it may spoil my new secret getaway! This is the only campground in the Wisconsin State Park system that has a pool. Two actually: One big pool with a diving board and also a kiddie pool. Blue Mounds is the highest point in southern Wisconsin. There are two obversation towers at the top of the mountain, one looking west and one looking east. The views are spectacular. There is also a park at the top of the hill with a giant mowed grass field surrounded by a road that is exactly one half mile long (it used to be a horse race track in the 1920's)! It's a heavily wooded state park with many hiking and biking trails. Military Ridge Bike Trail also runs through the state park. In fact, if you are the exploring type you may want to search for the wreckage of a US military plane that crashed on the north side of the mountain back in 1941. Rumor is that their is still parts of the wreckage hidden in the foilage. Blue Mounds has 78 wooded sites. A modern shower/flush toilet building was added in 1995 making this park near perfect. The only thing lacking was a lake, but the pool sure is nice! BEST ELECTRICAL SITES: 31E, 33E, 35E, 36E, 37E BEST NON-ELECTRICAL SITES: 17, 15/16 (dual site), 40, 42, 43, 44, 45 & 51

We did not stay here, but biked into the campground to have a look around from the Military Ridge trail that runs right adjacent to the park. Beware, it is a really step climb from the trail on the connecting path into the campground. The sites were all wooded and spaced nicely. The area is very hilly though, so you may have a steep hike to get to the shower house which sits on top of a hill. Make sure you do climb both of the platforms for views of the surrounding area. Gorgeous!! There is also a pool in the park which looked very nice.
