We come here twice a year for the wonderful scenery, friendly staff, cool mountain weather. The park has a paved road that goes around it for an easy walk. The Black Bear restraunt is on premises and has very reasonably priced food. The staff is very helpful if a problem arises. Looking forward to our next trip.

This is my favorite campground. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The park is situated in the Davis Mountains of West Texas. There are lots of trees and several shaded full hook-up sites as well as lots of wildlife that includes javelina, deer, raccoons, foxes, skunks (well-mannered), and a wide variety of birds. Cell phone coverage is spotty in the lower areas of the park, but a short drive up to the scenic overlook yields a strong signal. Hiking trails are excellent and horseback riding is available nearby. You will also want to attend a Star Party that is hosted by nearby McDonald Observatory. We never get tired of coming to this campground.

This is also one of our favorite parks. We have stayed there many times, used to go every 4th of July. It is usually very clean. Watch out for the javelina that roam around the park at night - expecially if you have small pets. It is cool in the summer in the David Mountains compared to the rest of Texas and it is just wonderful at night. Over the 4th, the town has a big celebration around the courthouse and big fireworks display at night that you can take in from the top of Skyline drive in the park. The national historic site, Ft. Davis is in a beautiful setting and definitely worth going to see. There are many things to do in the area, including visiting the desert plant exhibit and of course the star gazing at McDonald Observatory. Be sure and eat or have a cocktail at the Limpia Hotel.

This is one of our favorite camping areas. The area is beautiful and the park is peaceful with nice sites. McDonald Observatory is just a few miles up the road and Ft. Davis National Site close by. Camp sites are spaced well. There are pull through sites with cable, water and electric hook ups and other sites have electric and water hook ups. Tent sites are also available. There is even a hotel on site built by the CCC in the 1930s called the Indian Lodge and operated by the park service for those that don\'t want to camp. Would highly recommend this somewhat out of the way but very nice state park.
