Governor Dodge is wonderful. The park is gorgeous, with rolling hills and lots of space. The campgrounds are really nice with clean shower houses, and most of the sites are wooded. Site 237 was great -- private and a short stroll to the shower house. Plus, you have two lakes both with beaches, a waterfall, and lots of trails. You are also a short distance to Dodgeville and the Military Ridge bike trail that is over 40 miles long. You can bike Military Ridge trail from the park, but is extremely steep and we gave up the one day we tried it. And we never saw anyone else on the connector trail. This is a great place to camp; one of my favorites.

This is a lovely state park with meadows, hills, forests and two lakes for swimming, boat rentals, fishing, and even a pet beach. The campsites are heavily wooded and provide lots of shade and privacy. Only disappointment was the advertised 3-mile bike ride from the park to the state bike trail included very steep grades and riding on busy two-lane roads.

Southwest Wisconsin is arguably the most beautiful part of the state and Governor Dodge helps you enjoy it. The park is beautiful, fun, quiet and clean. There is every type of trail and even waterfalls. Our site was on a bluff overlooking Cox Hollow Lake and it was a great view for sunrise/set and the moon rising. People were friendly although we didn't see much of the rangers. Can't wait to go back and you shouldn't miss it!!!!!

This is my favorite place to camp in Wisconsin, specifically the Twin Valley 2 campground. The sites are all in a very wooded area, well separated, and have access to a clean shower house and 2 buildings with flush toilets. Even though our site was right across from the shower house, it was still peaceful, even over Labor Day weekend. We also stayed the week following Labor Day and the place literally cleared out. There were only 2 or 3 other campers on our loop and we loved the peace and quiet. Make sure you take advantage of all of the wildlife viewing in the park, including the bat house down on Twin Valley Lake. Every night right after sunset you can watch hundreds of bats come out of their bat house and fly around eating their dinner. What a treat! We also say deer, wild turkeys, pheasants, blue birds, and heard crying of nearby coyotes. My only complaint is that the staff at the park can somtimes have a real attitude and they need to come off their high horse. I understand the rules are rules, but we were told we would forfeit our campsite that was fully paid for 7 nights if we vacated the site for one night during the middle of our stay. I can understand enforcing this policy when the place is full and people are waiting, but there were literally only 5 or 6 campers in our section of 100 sites. Ridiculous!

This was our second visit to Governor Dodge State Park and once again it was an outstanding experience. Our campsite in Twin Valley Campground was wooded and offered a lot of privacy from the campsites behind us and next to us. The shower/bathroom facilities were clean and in good condition. Although no out-of-state firewood is allowed, the park sold firewood daily, at a convenient time and a fair price. The park is huge with two lakes, swimming, fishing and boat rentals, and beautiful terrain to explore by trail and by car. There also are a lot of great atttractions and charming towns within a 20-mile range of the park. We're looking forward to returning to Governor Dodge for a full week next year!
