We loved it here. Had a spot just along side the river. Nice and helpfull staff. Perfect way to end our RV vacation. Only comment we have is that the restrooms and shower building could do with some remoddeling.

Nice campground right on the Kern River. Lots of shade as needed in the summer. Lots of improvements in recent years adding to the experience. Restrooms and showers are some of the nicest I have seen at a campground. Can be dusty when vehicles drive by and muddy in the winter. Overall great very nice little campground.

We love it at Camp James! We stay there every August for my daughter's birthday. The owners, Cathy, and her husband, keep the campground and bathroom facilities exceptionally clean! The campsites are located right next to the Kern River, and a little stream runs on the opposite side of the campsites. The little stream is safe and shallow for the little ones to play in. The campsites are well shaded too. Cathy is a very nice camp host. My sister-in-law and her boyfriend came to visit us at Camp James for my daughter's birthday...after they checked in with Cathy, she went out of her way and gave them a ride in her golf cart and brought them right to our campsite so that they didn't have to lug their folk guitars in! When the fish & game truck came into the campground to stock the river, Cathy took the time to drive her golf cart to each of the campsites that had kids staying there, to tell them to go over to the river to see the trout being released! The kids and adults were so excited! It was a gret experience! The river is easily accessible to fish, swim, or to ride your inner tube (with a life vests on of course). You can ride your inner tube all the way down to the bridge (and even farther)in town, then walk right back up to camp, paddle across the river, and you're back at Camp James! You can walk way up the river to bigger white water (I've heard people refer to it as 'Big Daddy's' or 'The Drop') and have an even longer inner tube ride! We have already made reservations for this August 2007. We look forward to being at Camp James again! If you're looking to be loud and party all night long, I would not suggest this campground.

The owners of this campground run a tight ship.Camp James was nice before but now it is like a haven on the River Kern. From the beginning to end of our stay we loved every minute of Camp James. It's a place where you can go and just enjoy camping without all the yahoos, loud mouths, and ghetto boom box competitions. Camp James is elite compared to the other campgrounds on the Kern.Cheers to the new owners. We can't wait to return!

Just got back from a week long trip to the Kern with the family and 4 other families. We had a blast and Camp James is great. We were there last year in August and the new owners were just starting to clean the place up. To see the transformation in a year was very impressive. Edison installed a new transformer and Camp James rewired there facility. We ran the AC 24/7 and never had a hiccup. The campsites are clean the owners are extremely friendly and the people that camp there are great. If you are a noisy bunch this is not the place for you. They are strict about the noise as barking dogs and loud music are not welcome. I have to agree with them completely, we played music outside our trailer but kept it down to not disturb other camper tranquil experience. My kids rode there bikes around camp and saw a doe and fawn in camp. The owners Cathy and her husband (can't remeber his name) are gracious hosts. This camp group is not recommended for trailers over 35'.
