We stay at the pines at least once a year. A nice campground with a good beach on the lake. Keep your food inside at night. Bears have been known to visit now and then.

There are actually 6 different camping areas at Promised Land State Park. This was our second visit. Although there is a limit of 5 guests, if you are all of the same family they will not enforce the limit and you may put multiple tents on one site but only one vehicle. [Extra vehicles park in a special parking lot.] The only thing we wish was better would be enforcement of quiet hours between 9PM and 8AM. The folks next to us were talking quite loud and kept opening and closing their van door until about well after 11PM. Also, if you are in a tent many of the sites are not level and some accommodate only small tents. Without seeing the actual sites in advance you could select a site which does not best meet your needs. We have the advantage of living close enough to visit the campground and select our site before making a reservation. It's only a short walk to the main beach from The Pines camping area whereas some of the camping areas require a drive to the beach. The disadvantage of The Pines i' no shower facilities although there are flush toilets. Some of the other camping areas have showers. Posted photo shows site next to ours with tent pitched on gravel. We pitched our tents in the grass.

Stayed in Pickerel Point campground. Excellent campground. Clean, very nice beach ( great for kids) with soft sand. We loved campsites right by the water. Now you can reserve site on-line in advace. Before was on first come first serve basis.
Across the lake another beach (Pines campground) with the fast food stand. This is public beach so gets crowded compare to Pickerel beach.
Going this year again after 5 years break from the campground.
