We've camped Hershey Highmeadows twice now, once during the summer of 2008 and then the weekend of Halloween that same year. Although sites can be a little cramped for a larger camper (we run a 34 ft fifth wheel with multiple slides) they were level and well kept. Both visits we've stayed in the Woodlands which is an absolute must given as yes, the freight trains do run frequently. The campground is well laid out and well kept. Bath houses were clean, neat and well tended. The campstore and game room, while somewhate dated lend themselves nicely to the overall atmosphere. We did have some issues with the quality of our cable TV signal but then, we weren''t there for the TV time...we camp this park for one thing and one thing only...Hershey Park and in this respect,, it is THE place to be. Shuttles were always on-time, clean and air conditioned. Discount tickets at the campstore were almost 1/2 off the regular price plus the early admisssion program was so worth it! This campground is really all about the park and in that respect, it delivers everything you could ask for. One word of caution...reserve well in advance and if you're after the Halloween weekends, think about next year...it may be too late already for 2009 (we're in...made ours on the way out last year...LOL).

We used this campground as our base camp while going to Hershey Park. We really enjoyed our visit. This is the only place to stay while visiting Hershey Park. The whole campground was nicely laid out, clean, and lots of open space for family activities. The pool was nice and the bath houses where clean and never crowded. The store and front desk was fully equiped and the staff was friendly and helpful. We bought our HP tickets at the store and got a nice discount. We also got discounts to the gardens and museum as well. We stayed in site 189 in the Woodland Section. These sites are all full hook up with 50/30/20 amp service. The sites are gravel/grass mix. Although the sites could be considered small and close together, it was not cramped and we were comfortable with two adults and two teenagers in our 35ft motorhome. We had enough room to set up our site including two slides and an awning. We were able to sit around a nice size campfire without worrying about catching anyones equipment on fire. The shuttle to HP ran from an hour before park opening to an hour after park closing. It ran a regular schedule and we never waited more then 5 minutes for the shuttle. As far as the train goes, it is there and runs at various times. We noticed upon our arrival the first time it went by, after that it was just sort of in the distance and it was not really a bother at all. In fact I think it adds to the Hershey experience since it is a factory town and the train is bringing the cocoa beans to factory. Have Fun...

I would not stay here again. Although it is close to Hershey Park I will go elsewhere. The sites are small and the noise from the railroad is enough for me not to return.

I am really surprised that all the comments revolve around the same two things, yet all who wrote would stay here again. We would NOT stay here again, based on the tiny inaccessable sites and the non stop roar of the freight train. The staff were extremely unhelpful when we asked for assistance.

This campground was great for the conveniences of the 1 hour early admission to the park, the shuttle and the coupon book. Without these extras, we would not stay there. As others have said: it does get crowded, the bathrooms are overwhelmed and the train noise is pretty unbearable. You may get used to the noise after the first night. Either that or we were too exhausted from the park to care. We were also in a tent so that makes a difference soundwise. All in all we had a great time. I will echo the statement posted above: this is not the place to go to enjoy the scenery and relax.

Good: location to Hershey attractions, the shuttle bus, lots for kids to do in the campground. Full time security to keep the kids and others under control. Bad: realatively small sites, gets so crowded in the summer the pools and bathrooms are overwhelmed. I camp in a 32'TT/F-350. Sites were tight, but not unmanageable. Ugly: the trains, up front in the full hook up section the noise was not an issue for us. Summary: If you are using this campground as a base for Hershey park and visiting the areas attractions, this is the place to use. If looking for a campground where you can sit around the site and enjoy the quiet and natural scenery, this is not the place to use.

Other than what was others have posted, the laundry facilities are grossly inadequate, as I remember six washers and six dryers. One thing that did impress me is that they have a well planned evacuation plan. When we were there there was a tornado sighting and they were prepared to bus everyone to the local high school after having them secure their equipment and RV's. They cancelled the evacuation but it was nice to know they have a plan.

You can't beat the shuttle to the park and the discounted tickets to the park at the office. The sites were very tight at the full hookup area (Woodlands) to the right of the entrance driveway. We have a 36 DP and couldn't open the main awning or the awning on our slide. The fireplace ring for the next site over was VERY close to our slideout, they couldn't start a fire. Didn't care because we spent most of our time at the park. Yes the trains make noise 24 hrs a day.

We like Hershey Highmeadow & i think it's reasonably priced around $36 for full hookup. We tend to stay up on the hill in a Class A. Those sites seem to have a little more room than those right inside the entrance on the right. The bathrooms have always been clean, as is the store, the pools, & playgrounds. Haven't had to use the laundry. They offer free shuttles to the park & chocolate world. They did have discounts to the Hershey Museum & Gardens last time we stayed. The only dislike for me is that the freight train does run literally every 30 mins or so. The top of the hill seems to be the closest to it. There is a fence up to seperate it from the campground. DH & kids sleep right through it, i can not. BUT, how else are they going to get all those cocoa beans into the plant to make those great chocolate bars?? :O)

Hershey Highmeadow campground was a great location for our family to set up camp while we explored the Hershey area. The pools are very nice, and there are alot of green spaces and common areas are well maintained. Our restrooms were very clean. However, the two main problems we had were one: the sites are very small and packed in very close together-it was like a parking lot in some areas. and two, the railroad tracks that run along one side of the campground are REALLY close to many sites-it seemed like the tracks were about 25 feet from some campers-the trains were very loud and the trains came very frequently (like 3 or 4 times per HOUR). Our site wasn't that close, so it didn't bother us too much once we got used to it. Overall, this campground is a good place to stay-but you have to know what you are getting into. I felt sorry for some families that were forced to tent camp in ridiculously small sites, situated extremely close to the paved roadway. When you plan a special trip like this, and get a crummy site it is too bad. We were lucky, and had a good time.
