I have been to many state parks throughout the country. I live near Cuivre River State Par and have stayed there just a few times. Spent two nights there last week and thought the park was in pretty good shape except for 2 particular items. 1) The sites need more gravel for the campers. It was way to soft and muddy. The bath house and restrooms were filthy. Cleaning them would be a major plus. The hosts were friendly except one was a bit grumpy. Other than that the stay was pleasant enough to return.

Being from Missouri but now live in Iowa, I remember camping here as a child. I must say there have been some improvements to the area. We enjoyed our stay at the park very much, however I forgot how humid Missouri was in August. Thank goodness I had full hookups and Air conditioning! I will say if you are not seasoned at pulling your trailer or manuvering your motor home through winding roads..this is not for you. A bit difficult to manuever. However in the full hookup sites there is a road that is left open on Sundays for the mass exodus that is very accessible and way more easily manuevered. It is also left opened on trash days. The wooded area lent to a very rustic yet comfortable stay. Restrooms very clean. Be aware of chiggers if you go out for a stroll on the trails they are in abundance. Do make reservation there however, on weekends it gets very crowded but the width of the camp sites makes it very bearable for those who prefer space. We will definately return again.

This was our first trip to Cuivre River State Park. The campground is heavily wooded with nice wide campsites. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring. The landscape in this area is beautiful.....wooded and rustic. Bathroom/shower houses are modern and clean. There are areas for horseback riding, and there is a beach area located at one of the "lake" areas. We saw people wading and fishing in this area. We saw many wild animals......deer, racoons, wild turkeys, birds; and you can hear the coyotes at night. We stayed in the full hook-up section. There are other sections with electric and water, and a section for primitive camping. There are a couple of sections dedicated to group camps. If you're looking for a campground with lots of amenities, you won't find them here. But if you want to camp in a beautiful natural setting, Cuivre River would fit that description. There is a campground host staying in each section. Reservations would be necessary for a weekend stay. This is an excellent state park. We will visit again.
