Amazing view! Beautiful trails, beautiful park. Great showers. Pit toilets are the cleanest I've seen. Nice park rangers. Favorite place to camp!

Opicwuna Mountain, as the Chippewa Indian tribe name it, is what it is still known to us today as Rib Mountain. In the winter its a popular ski area now called Granite Peak. In the summer its a state park offering breathtaking views of central Wisconsin. The 26 sites of the campground are actually perched on top of the ski slope where the chair lift drops skiers off in the winter. At the bottom of the mountain road is Wausau, translated exactly means a place you can see far away. The campground is small but shady. Only two electrical sites and one of those is a handicapped site (which incidentally is the only site that offers little to no shade). Most of the sites are relatively small. There are showers available at 5 minutes for a buck. At the top of the mountain is a lookout tower and a concession stand. Seven miles of hiking trails sprawl the top of the mountain as well. Overall its a nice park for a weekend trip and will offer spectacular fall color viewings. If you want to find a site for next summer you could always ski through the campground in the winter! VERY GOOD SITES: 1 (small, but shady) GOOD SITES: 9, 11, 13, 29
