Although the campground was full, it wasn't super crowded. Though you always met someone on the trails or at scenic overlooks. Biggest complaint? Litter. Litter everywhere. We hiked almost every trail and there was tons of it everywhere. Also when we arrived at our campsite...litter, straws, beer caps, burned out logs tossed to the edge of the camp. This really begins to effect your experience. Lake Wissota was beautiful, would definitely visit it again, just not at this state park. This park is best for those who don't want to feel isolated, prefer flat trails and very open camp sites.

This a great state park! The sites we stayed in were in the trees and not only could you not hear any neighboring campers - you can't see them either! VERY nice! Beach is HUGE! nice boat landing. Staff was great! I will side with another poster on going into Chippewa Falls (pronounced Chip'waa by the natives) - Lienenkuegel's brewery is a MUST! Irvine park is really something! It's 300 acres or something right in the middle of town! Back to Lake Wissota though -it was filled to capacity both times and didn't feel at all crowded. Seems to me they had a horse camp area too! Definitely recommend it!

We stayed twice in the Crystal Lake Campground. It is a beautiful lake. It is spring fed though and can be cold. It was very hot when we were there though and it felt good. You can walk all the way around the lake. There are some sites that are right on the sandy beaches. Nice showers and facilities. It is a beautiful area there.

We enjoy Lake Wissota for a few reasons. One, there is a nice beach in an enclosed cove which makes the water bath-like!. Lots of sand, plenty of room to spread out, great for kids. Also, lots of grass areas with occasional trees placed here and there if you want to get out of the sandy beach. There's a nice fishing pier with benches and everything seems to be very wheelchair accessible. Second, there are plenty of things to do and see nearby. Chippewa Falls is probably most famous for is its brewery, Leinenkugels. Leinenkugels is a brewery tour you must take in if your in the area. It's a great tour of an old brewery. There's a wonderful gift shop and you get to sample any of the beers in the Leinie's Lodge. Plenty of juice or soda for the kid's. There's never a long wait and the tours are like every 15 minutes or half hour. Walk a half block down the street from the brewery and you can enjoy the water park. It's only $1.50/person and it was a refreshing change after spending three days in the lake! Of course I had to visit the Dairy Queen across the street after all that swimming. Next to the DQ is the entrance to Irvine Park, a place you have to at least take a drive through! You start by visiting the black bears. I actually thought this was a zoo at first. Next to the bears is a cave you can walk into which was used years ago to keep kegs of beer cold. Further down the road you'll find an awesome view of waterfalls caused by another dam. Then it's on to more wild animal habitats and finally down to the petting zoo. Chippewa Falls is a great small town to walk around, shop, stop for lunch and ice cream! Overall, we found Lake Wissota a relaxing quiet campground that offered everything we were looking for: campsite privacy, shade, nice swimming area, and some touristy things to do!
