The best thing about this campground is its location on the Elroy Sparta Trail. The trail literally runs right through the campground. We loved getting up in the morning, having breakfast, and heading right out on the trail. The campground is east of Wilton and you are 1.25 miles from Tunnel One and 6 miles to Tunnel Two. The other great thing is the lovely pool with really pretty mosaics on the sides and bottoms. The staff opened up the pool for just the two of us, which was really nice, especially since this was after Labor Day and they could have just said it was closed. We found the bathrooms and shower houses to be clean, but the older one could use a bit of updating. We stayed here the first week of September during the week and the campground was literally empty. Of the 50 or so sites, THREE were occupied. So this made for a very peaceful stay. Now if the camground were full, I do have to say that the sites are close together and for the most part have no privacy. The back portion of the campground is in very pretty wooded area, get that section if you can, but be aware of small sites or those only meant for tents. And if you do stay towards the front of the campground, you are pretty much right on Hwy 71, which did not get a ton of traffic, but when a truck went by it was loud and even woke me up one night in the middle of the night. That being said, we would stay here again just for the location to the trail and the cleanliness of the campground, if nothing else. I also highly recommend the Dorset Valley School Restaurant & Bakery just down the road from the campground. Outstanding food and ambience, plus reasonable prices!
